Amazon.com Product Description The Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 riflescope has what it takes to accommodate almost any hunting style, including enough power for the longest shots and a wide field of view for thick brush and timber. The scope's main features include a multicoated lens system for up to 90 percent light transmission, a bullet drop compensating (BDC) reticle for easy holdover out to 600 yards (magnum calibers), and precise, repeatable 1/4 MOA reticle adjustments. The BDC reticle is perhaps the most compelling feature, as its trajectory-compensating system is designed and calibrated to provide fast, simple aiming points for various shot distances. The unique system integrates a series of small "ballistic circles" to produce an unobstructed view of the target. The scope's high-performance lenses, meanwhile, are coated with multiple layers of anti-reflective compounds. The compounds serve to boost light transmission, improve contrast (to pull game out of its surroundings), deliver true color rendition and flare-free viewing, and enhance the overall image quality. Plus, the ProStaff scope is ready for years of reliable service thanks to its 100 percent waterproof and fogproof housing. The scope is O-ring sealed and nitrogen filled to ensure that neither fog nor any other kind of moisture penetrates the interior. Specifications: - Finish: Matte black

Rifle Scope February 15, 2010 Ronald Ruiz Jr. (ERWIN, NC, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this is my first purchase for my rifle. I bopught it with a scope already. Wow what a big difference, i was impressed with the view and the sight picture from this scope. I highly recommend it to anyone. Also i have since let my friends looking thru it and we all went to the range and zeroed how easy was it. I can now say that this upcoming year will be a good season for me.
Worth every single penny. February 1, 2010 Chris K. (Seattle, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was tired of the iron sights on my RRA AR-15... ordered the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Riflescope (Matte, BDC) and it arrived fast. Opened up the box, didn't look like anything too special right then and there. I took off the reticle, looked nice, sharp, clear indoor looking down my hallway.
After a day at the field, I have to tell you guys... it's absolute gold. The clarity is amazing, and it has excellent light gathering ability. This was especially evident in Washington's sporadic weather, cloudy one second then very bright and sunny the next. There wasn't even a hiccup, this scope makes everything easy.
The reticle is clear and precise. Long story short, right off the bat I was on paper in 2-shots at 100-yards. I was zero'ed on bullseye in 4 more. A total of 6-shots for zero, right out of the box, at 100 yards.
This scope is of very good quality... and thanks to it, my confidence in my own shooting ability has taken a big step up.
Cons:
- No scope rings included (not a big deal)
- Need a flathead screwdriver to adjust elev/windage (again, no bid deal)
Just a quick note for those mounting this on an AR-15. If you have an A2 front-sight post... you'll need a riser or high-mount rings for optimum results.
I'll be buying another for my other rifles.

Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40mm, BDC, Matte January 11, 2010 M. Carron (Southern NM) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Wow! What a scope for the price. Great eye relief and clarity. I mounted this scope on my Savage 22-250 and added a 40mm 4" sun-shade. I sighted in at 200 yds and was on center with 4 shots. I use this scope mainly for hunting predators and love the BDC reticle. Using Hornady 55-grain V-Max bullets and my handloads, the reticle compensations match identically out to 600+ yards perfectly. My longest shot taken successfully was 658 yds on a "yote" and the POI was within 1"+/- of where I "guest-i-mated" the hold-over. I can't say enough about this scope. It equally compares to my Leupold VX-III in clarity, has quicker sight acquisition than the VX-III, and provides the same or better clarity in low light such as dawn and dusk hunting situations. If this scope is this great, I can only image what their "Monarch" series scopes are like. Wish the ProStaff came with options such as turrets and a mil-dot reticle [for them even LONGER shots]! Amazon price can't be beat plus the added bonus of FREE super-saver shipping!
