Looks good, but... August 16, 2010 Kraven Moorehead (Portland) While based on an excellent muzzle brake, this item is absolutely NOT recommended for actual use. If you want to dress up your M44, then this'll work fine, but this item has multiple issues that severely limit it's usefulness.
First, it appears to have been turned on a lathe operated by a novice machinist at Political Re-Education and Forced Labor camp #707. Every surface shows tool marks, and every edge is sharp. But what do you want for just $10?
Second, the machine screws that hold the collar that secures the brake to the muzzle ARE FAR, FAR TOO WEAK!! After firing just 3 rounds, the brake was creeping forward and bending these tiny screws. They simply are too weak to withstand full power muzzle blast! If I had fired the remaining 2 rounds it likely would have been ejected downrange, with unknown damage to the sight base, etc.
Third, installation of this brake prevents deployment of the bayonet. Therefore, it is not recommended.
Your get what you pay for... June 18, 2010 Delta Echo (Atlanta, GA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
At roughly $13 with free prime shipping, there's not much to lose in a venture to see if this lives up to it's claims.
Unfortunately, this does not 'slip' on to a 1936 91/30 Mosin Nagant, or any of the five '36-'41 91/30 Mosin-Nagants I own.. Even with a rubber mallet, the brake would not be persuaded onto the barrel.
Issues:
-No Instructions (odd, but a simple picture of the finished mounting would suffice since there is no tooling to show the depth or proper mounting on a rifle)
-Poorly machined; the interior of the brake is rough and not smooth. Simple test fitting causes scratches on the outer rim of the barrel.
Fortunately I have a friend with a machine shop who can re-tool this item for me to fit my daily use Mosin, and then I can report back it's function as a muzzle brake.
If you are expecting something to pop on with an allen wrench, odds are against you this will work. If you have to use a 22 oz. framing hammer to attach an accessorie to a rifle, you may as well shop for this in the plumbing department at your hardware store and make something up from threaded fittings and black iron pipe.
LOOK GOOD BUT USELESS April 28, 2010 Chun K. Wong (SF CA) it fit my m44 and m38. look good. But it is useless for shoot. I cant hit the target in 100 yard after intalled this item. When I remove it. I can get the target again.
effective but faulty February 12, 2010 Wesley Thomas Jardin (San Diego, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This muzzle break worked great while it was still in one piece. It really did reduce the recoil by about 30%. The only trouble is it blew off while i was shooting and upon inspection it was the weak screws that got sheared in half. So buy at your own risk.
